Older furniture needs the tag taken seriously
The historic streets around the Square have the oldest housing in Chandler, and the furniture frequently matches.
The older a piece is, the higher the chance its fabric is something modern cleaning assumptions do not suit. Rayon, acetate, older velvets, wool and silk blends all turn up here, and several of them are S-coded, meaning solvent only. Water on those does not merely fail to clean, it causes browning, rings or dye movement that cannot be reversed.

The tag under the cushion decides the method
Nearly every upholstered piece carries a cleaning code, usually on a tag under a seat cushion or fixed to the frame. It is the manufacturer stating what the fabric will tolerate, and it governs everything that follows.

Cushions come off and get done on both sides wherever the construction allows. We work around the furniture rather than shifting it, so nothing needs clearing out beforehand and nobody should be moving a sofa on our behalf.

The interval is shorter than people expect because of contact hours. Furniture gets touched more than any other surface in a home, and body oil transfers into the fabric at the arms and headrest every time somebody sits down.
It builds slowly enough that you stop registering it. You are not comparing the piece to last week, you are comparing it to the day it arrived, and that gap is almost always wider than anyone expects.
