Everything here is light colored
Walk through the newer south Chandler phases and the furniture is remarkably consistent. Cream, greige, light gray, bone. It suits the houses and it shows absolutely everything.
Which means most of what we get called to here is a piece that is structurally perfect and simply looks tired. No damage, no disaster, just six or eight years of a family on pale fabric.
The good news is that this is the most satisfying kind of job to do. Newer fabric, soil that has not been sitting for decades, and the biggest visible difference between before and after in the trade.
Performance fabric is not self-cleaning
Most of the newer furniture here is performance fabric, and there is a persistent belief it does not need professional cleaning. Half true and worth unpicking.
Performance fabric resists liquid extremely well. Spills bead rather than soaking in, which is genuinely useful and is what the showroom demonstration shows you.
What it does not resist is dry soil and body oil. Fine dust still works into the weave and oil still transfers at every point of contact. Because the fabric is almost always pale, the gradual darkening where people sit is obvious once you know to look.
The good news is that performance fabric cleans very well. It just needs cleaning, on the same schedule as anything else.
First professional clean
Most households out here are on their first home and their first set of furniture, which means the sofa has never had a professional clean in its life.
That is exactly the case where sanitizing is worth the money. Six or eight years of a young family produces more than surface dirt, and the first clean on a piece like that is doing more than making it look better.
It is also the case where we can honestly say that once it is done and you keep it on a schedule, you will not need the add-on every time.
The tag under the cushion decides the method
